ACT Supporters Celebrate Affordable Housing at Annual Build the Dream Event

On a balmy summer evening at Oak & Iron in Andover, supporters of affordable housing gathered to celebrate the annual Build the Dream event and honor two distinguished award recipients.

The patio was alive with the warm hum of conversation as current ACT homeowners, friends of the awardees, board members, families, the ACT founder Susan Stott, and Andover residents mingled over a delectable spread of appetizers and excellent beer. The crowd underscored the vibrant community fostered by affordable housing initiatives.

Blake Martin, ACT president, kicked off the evening with the annual business meeting, which saw the approval of last year’s minutes and the welcoming of Naiying Weigand as the newest board member.

The highlight of the evening was the award presentations by ACT executive director, Denise Johnson. The Fred Stott Award was bestowed upon CHAPA’s Municipal Engagement Initiative Team, with Carol Marine accepting the honor on the team’s behalf.

Affordable housing is not just a matter of providing shelter, it is about creating a foundation for individuals and families to thrive and build a better future.

Johnson also presented the Opening Doors to Affordable Housing Award to Linda O’Connell, who expressed her gratitude saying, “Affordable housing is not just a matter of providing shelter, it is about creating a foundation for individuals and families to thrive and build a better future. The work we have done in the Andover community is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together with a shared vision and determination.”

Martin concluded the evening by thanking all the guests for their unwavering support and advocacy for local affordable housing. He also thanked the lead sponsor Enterprise Bank and business sponsors Andover Consultants, Touchstone Closing, and Minuteman Press.

"The mission for affordable housing extends beyond a single event,” shared Johnson. “If you were unable to attend it’s not too late to donate. Every donation to the Andover Community Trust brings us closer to a future where affordable housing is accessible to all, fostering a community where everyone can thrive."
