Jerely, GLTS Senior, Carpentry
I want to make a home comfortable for the folks living here. I’ve worked on the siding, the closet doors, the walls, the trim, literally everything. The finishing work is what I most enjoy because it makes everything look complete. I can look back later and say, Oh, wow, I did that!
Working in each room you need to be very critical. If something isn’t right you need to take off the whole thing and start over. It’s really important that all of the work is done properly and done well.
I want to become an interior designer, possibly with a degree from a community college. I like having a vision in mind to create a livable and enjoyable space for the homeowners.
It’s weird to be back on-site following our off-site time during Covid. In addition to the critical work site guidelines that we follow, we need to remember our masks and the Covid guidelines.
Our whole carpentry team works well with one another. We are good at balancing fun and focus. Carpentry in general is very male-dominated. We have only 4 seniors who are female in carpentry at GLTS. I see more girls coming into shop and that’s so great. I feel like I can be a role model for them and for others.
